Special guests at this years parade and festival will
be the world-traveled, high-flying Jesse White
Tumbling Team from Chicago!! This will be their first
appearance in Hawaii and should not be missed!! |
Jesse White founded the internationally known Jesse White Tumbling Team
to serve as a positive alternative for children residing in and around
the Chicago area. Since its inception 47 years ago more than 10,700
young men and women have performed with the team. Since 1998 Jesse
White has served as the Secretary of State of Illinois, and receives
more votes than any other elected official statewide.

Read for Peace
At the Honokaa Library, Monday, September 15, 2008. At 6 pm there will be an open house to encourage students and families to Read for Peace. During August and September a variety of peace books will be available from the states library system collection. There will also be an informational presentation by the Carteret Atoll Project, a recipient of a grant from the Peace Day Parade Committee. This atoll, in Papua New Guinea, is a victim of global warming and will soon disappear under rising seas.
Student Poster Art Contest
Students and teachers are invited to submit posters to the Committee for display at the Festival (taking place Sunday, September 21, Honokaa Sports Complex) The theme is Peace is and 1st and 2nd place prizes ($50 and $25) will be awarded for each grade level (kindergarten to 12th). Financial support is available for teachers. The grand prize winner will also receive a one-night stay at Waianuhea Bed & Breakfast, which is the sponsor of this event. See our website for details.

Parade & Festival for the United Nations International Day of Peace
Honokaa, Hawaii hosts the most significant Peace Day event in the state of Hawaii, and the only event of its kind nationwide, a parade and festival demonstrating unity in support of peace, compassion and awareness of interdependence. At 12 noon on Sunday, September 21, 2008, more than 400 participants from over 30 groups will perform or exhibit in a unique parade, described as a moving stage. The festival which follows will include entertainment and over 40 vendors and exhibitors. See our website for information on participating in the parade and the festival.
Peace Concert
A nationally touring rock artist will be appearing this fall at a place and date to be announced in the future.
Student Poster Art Show
Winning entries of the poster contest will be displayed at a showing this fall at the Waialoa Art Center in Hilo. Dates and details will be announced in the future.
